Key Stage 1 Trip to Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre

Today, our Key Stage 1 children enjoyed a wonderful day out at the Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre. The sun was shining, the air was fresh, and the children were full of excitement as they set off to explore the natural world around them.

Throughout the day, the children took part in a range of exciting, hands-on activities to help them learn all about animal senses. They used their sense of smell to be badgers, creating their own smelly potions from plants in the sensory garden. Then, they became foxes, using their super sense of hearing to listen carefully for the squeak of hidden mice! Acting as sparrowhawks, they put their super sight to the test by spotting pictures of mice cleverly hidden in the meadow. Finally, they turned into moles, relying on their sense of touch to follow a rope trail while blindfolded — a real challenge that they all completed brilliantly!

One of the highlights of the day was meeting some morio worms. The children learned that these fascinating creatures use their antennae for touch, taste, and smell — and many of our brave pupils even chose to hold them!

The staff at the Nature Discovery Centre were full of praise for our pupils, commenting on how beautifully behaved, polite, and engaged they were throughout the visit. We couldn’t be prouder of the children for representing our school so wonderfully.

It was a fantastic day of learning, exploration, and fun — one that we’re sure the children will remember for a long time! 🌿✨
